EZAPAC: the green berets of the Spanish Air Force exhibit their means

Within the Spanish military community of special operations, the EZAPAC is the unit corresponding to the Air Force.

The Parachute Sapper Squadron (EZAPAC) has its origins in the Parachute Sapper Squadron (which shared the same initials as the current unit), founded in 1965. The current name of the EZAPAC was implemented in 2002. Its emblem is a machete with a parachute and two wings, and its motto is: "Only those who are willing to die for a noble ideal deserve to live."

The EZAPAC is currently divided into several units depending on the mission of each one. The operational unit is the Special Forces Squadron, which is divided into six SOTU (Special Operators Task Unit) operational teams. In addition, there is an Operational Support Squadron (in charge of logistics, weapons, vehicles, etc.) and a Training Squadron.

The EZAPAC operators have a green beret as their distinctive garment, a garment common to the other two units of the Joint Special Operations Command (MCOE) of the Spanish Armed Forces: the Special Operations Command (MOE) of the Army and the Special Naval Warfare Force (FGNE) of the Navy.

The EZAPAC is based at the Alcantarilla Air Base, in the Region of Murcia. This Monday, on the occasion of a visit by the minister to this unit, the Ministry of Defense has published a series of photos taken by Iñaki Gómez that show the materials of this Squadron. Among them we see two vehicles of the unit: a VAMTAC ST5 VMOE, with arid-colored paint, and an ST5 with a long body and black paint that appears behind (unfortunately, Defense has not published better framed photos of this vehicle). In both cases these vehicles carry 12.7 mm Browning M-2 heavy machine guns on top.

The EZAPAC VAMTAC ST5 VMOE were received a few months ago. The Defensa magazine dedicated a complete report to them. These vehicles are like the VMOE used by the MOE of the Spanish Army and the Special Operations Force (FOE) of the Portuguese Army.

In this photo we can see the five ROSY smoke launchers carried by the EZAPAC VMOE in front of their Browning machine gun mount. On the other hand, the operators in the photo are carrying Heckler & Koch G-36KV assault rifles, a shorter version of the G-36 used by the Spanish Armed Forces. The rifles in the image have laser pointers on the handguard and Aimpoint Micro T2 red dot sights mounted on the Picatinny rail on the handle.

This photo shows EZAPAC's Ops-Core FAST High Cut helmets, fitted with night vision binoculars. The uniforms feature Crye Precision's popular Multicam camouflage, which has also been adopted by the MOE and FGNE.

The emblems worn by these operators on their left arms identify them as members of the Operational Team 40 (SOTU-40). We conclude with the following image, in which we can see the equipment of an EZAPAC operator in more detail.
