The socialist government announced police controls at the country's borders

Germany: The Left's powerful reason for changing its discourse on immigration

On Monday, the German socialist government made an announcement that caught many of its socialist colleagues across Europe off guard.

Don't look for the cause of what's happening in Germany in Moscow, but in Berlin and Brussels
Ban nail clippers rather than change the ideological dogmas of the left

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has announced controls at all German land borders starting next week, with the aim of combating illegal immigration, Islamist terrorism and cross-border crime.

In case some haven't noticed, this announcement calls into question the Schengen area, which is how the area of free movement shared by 29 European countries is known. In addition, it means breaking several ideological mantras of the Western left, starting with the criticism of the defense of borders and the rejection of illegal immigration, as well as the link between it and crime. The very left that called many who proposed these measures "xenophobic" is now forced to take them, after Germany suffered a serious wave of violence linked to mass immigration.

Obviously, border controls are not enough to solve the problem. In fact, a large part of the problem has already been within Germany's borders for years, due to the irresponsible immigration policy of the centrist Angela Merkel (CDU), which was blessed by the left. Now the problem has become so big that the solution will not be as simple as monitoring the borders so that no more undesirables can get through. But it is curious to observe the change in discourse of the German socialists. In fact, in addition to putting in place border controls, the German government now boasts that it has expelled more than 30,000 people from Germany since October 2023.

Looking at the actions of the German government, it is logical to wonder whether the socialists in that country have finally realized their mistake, after years of demonizing those who called for limiting immigration in the country, incapable of assuming and integrating such a large number of foreigners, especially those from Muslim countries. What is it that has led the German socialists to change their course? What powerful reason is it that has awakened them from their ideological fanaticism and their obsession with regard to immigration?

The answer is very simple: in a year there will be federal elections in Germany, and the recent failure of the SPD in several regional elections will have set off all the alarms at the headquarters of that party. Taking this into account, one has to wonder whether after the elections the SPD's discourse will return to its usual one, whether this change in discourse is pure opportunism and whether it will once again demonize those who ask that immigration policy be subordinated to guaranteeing the security of German citizens and whether the SPD's immigration policy will once again be a sieve for criminals. That is the uncertainty that will weigh on those who decide to once again entrust their vote to those responsible for the country's insecurity problem.
