Regarding a statement by Esteban González Pons in an interview

Is the Popular Party making pacts with “the most independentist party” in Spain?

One of the things we should value most in a politician or in any organization that claims to defend noble values is consistency.

The very different ways that the PP and Vox have of 'standing up' to Pedro Sánchez
The step that PP and PSOE should take after agreeing on the CGPJ and the Electoral Board

You cannot say that you defend the unity of Spain and then give in to the demands of those who want to break up Spain, which is what Sánchez is doing. But the socialists are not the only ones who display a clear incoherence. Yesterday, in an interview, Esteban González Pons, deputy institutional general secretary and member of the steering committee of the Popular Party, stated:

"The PSOE is the most pro-independence party there is. The PSOE is the party that has granted pardons, that has granted amnesty and that has signed the request for the economic independence of Catalonia. Maintaining, of course, that the people of Extremadura pay the pensions of Catalan retirees. The fact is that today the PSOE is the mask that the independence movement uses to achieve its objectives."

Also referring to the PSOE, González Pons added: "They do not believe in the Constitution. They want to do away with the Constitution."

All this leaves me very surprised. I agree with his criticism of the PSOE, but I don't understand why Esteban González Pons says these things. Let us bear in mind that the PP has agreed with the PSOE to divide up the Court of Auditors, the Ombudsman between them and the RTVE Council. In 2022 the PP handed over control of the Constitutional Court to the PSOE, and just a month ago the PP agreed the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and the Central Electoral Board with the PSOE.

Surely González Pons will remember these things well, because it was he who signed the PP's agreement with the socialists to share the CGPJ, taking this smiling photos with Minister Félix Bolaños:

In addition to all the above, the European People's Party has repeated its "grand coalition" with the socialists in Brussels, through a negotiation in which Pedro Sánchez, current secretary general of the PSOE, has participated. González Pons is certainly not unaware of the existence of this grand coalition, since in 2019 he boasted about it and in 2023 he boasted about this coalition again, before the last general elections.

The question that comes to mind is: At what point did González Pons discover that the PSOE is what he said yesterday in that interview? Because the PSOE has been what it is for a long time. In fact, in all this time, the PP has made harsh criticisms of the PSOE... and then has made a pact with it again. Having said that, one more question comes to mind: How long will it take for the PP to laugh at its voters again and make a pact with this PSOE that wants to do away with the Constitution?
