'We are close': the strange video released by the Ukrainian Special Forces
Military special operations units have some missions that most of the public is completely unaware of.
Today, Ukrainian Special Forces have provided a glimpse of this with a strange and fascinating video showing the sabotage and propaganda work they are doing behind enemy lines (in the video, a sign indicating the city of Mariupol can be seen). The images show people wearing masks and hoods carrying out different missions, which in some cases are very reminiscent of those carried out by Armia Krajowa in German-occupied Poland during World War II:
You can see here some screenshots that offer some clues about this video. Here we see a masked person next to a sign indicating the name of the city of Mariupol in Russian. This is a Ukrainian city that was razed and occupied by the Russians.
We see propaganda operations making graffiti with a mold, in the shape of a logo with two angles and a circle.
Another masked person corrects the Mariupol sign, putting it into Ukrainian.
In the video we see different people taking off their masks. A woman, an old man, a man of military age. The video shows other missions, such as taking photos of Russian military equipment. And towards the end we see this, with the Ukrainian phrase "Ми поруч" (We are close), with the hooded people in a field of sunflowers, a plant that is a national symbol in Ukraine.
At the end of the video we see the logo with the angles and the circle again. It is the symbol of the Ukrainian Special Forces Resistance Movement, which is celebrating the first anniversary of its creation.
What we have just seen is an excellent psychological operations (PSYOPS) video, surely the best I have seen since the "Ghosts in the Machine" video published two years ago by the US Army's 4th Psychological Operations Group, and which has some similarities to this Ukrainian video.
As I pointed out to you then, the purpose of psychological operations is to persuade and erode the enemy's morale, even to get them to surrender, while motivating friendly forces. In this case, the website of the Resistance Movement launches a message explaining its function as follows: "We are the people of Ukraine. We are total resistance in defense of our independence and freedom. We are everywhere. We see everything. We are at home."
The message to the Russians is very clear: you have a fifth column operating behind enemy lines that will make your life impossible. My best wishes to this Resistance Movement, I hope that its contribution will serve to expel the invaders from the territory of Ukraine.
