The socialists face a difficult situation due to their alliance with separatism

Sánchez makes a 'Major Kong' in Catalonia and is once again in the hands of Puigdemont

The Socialists won the Catalan elections yesterday with 42 seats, but they are not in a position to enjoy that victory.

Sánchez supported Puigdemont and now he demands to govern

The election results leave a devilish scenario for Pedro Sánchez's party. One of its legislative partners, ERC, collapses, losing 13 seats and staying with 20. The coalition led by Sumar's communists falls two seats and is left with 6. If the socialists wanted to govern with a left-wing tripartite they could do so, since the absolute majority is 68 seats, but ERC has already announced that it will be in the opposition.

In addition, the Junts separatists have won 3 seats and went from 32 to 35. With his unconstitutional amnesty in exchange for Junts' support for his re-election, Sánchez has given Puigdemont's party a boost of oxygen and now depends on him again. Last night, the fugitive from Justice set a price more to his support for Sánchez: Puigdemont has said that he wants to govern in Catalonia despite coming second, alleging that the distance between the PSOE and Junts in that region "is not different from that exists between PP and PSOE"in Congress, where the PSOE governs after having placed second in the last general elections.

A result that only guarantees more instability

Last night, ignoring these facts, Sánchez launched into announcing: "From today a new stage opens in Catalunya." Leaving aside the fact that the president of the government of Spain does not know that the name of that region in Spanish is "Cataluña", what has begun is yet another situation in which the socialists are in the hands of Puigdemont, and all because Sánchez decided that his reelection justified giving in everything to the leader of the separatist coup of 2017. Last night's results only guarantee more instability in Catalonia and the rest of Spain, due to the desire of Sánchez of associating with a criminal who is on the run from justice due to his outstanding accounts for that coup.

A celebration like that of Major Kong

Thus, the success of the Socialist Party in these elections is a glory as ephemeral as that of Major Kong when he managed to unjam the nuclear bomb in the weapons bay of a B-52 bomber in the movie "Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (1964) by Stanley Kubrick, and he celebrated by shouting with joy as he fell riding the bomb that he himself had thrown, only to die seconds later with it.

The socialists could govern if they had the support of the PP and Vox

The irony is that numerically speaking the socialists could govern in Catalonia without the need to associate with the separatists, but to do so they would need the support of two parties that they have demonized: the Party Popular, which opened the door to supporting Salvador Illa if he broke with the separatists, and Vox, which rejects any agreement with the socialists after the antidemocratic cordon imposed by them against that party and after the alliances of the PSOE with communists, separatists and even with those who do not condemn ETA's terrorism.

Sánchez will have to sacrifice Illa if he wants to remain in power

Thus, Sánchez is tied to separatism, since he put his re-election and his permanence in power in the hands of the enemies of Spain. Now, Sánchez has no choice but to sacrifice Salvador Illa and give the Catalan government to Puigdemont (and continue giving in to his every whim) if he wants to keep the government of Spain, but that could cause an internal fracture in the Socialist Party, in which the debate on Sánchez's succession has already begun after his recent farce that he planned to resign. Sanchez himself has chosen to ride a bomb, like Major Kong.
